Ovince Saint Preux was a step behind at every moment of UFC Vegas 30’s co-headliner and was stopped by a Tanner Boser more than happy to seize the initiative after a pair of losses.

Saint Preux had little urgency for the first five minutes of the fight, taking three minutes to counter the kicks that repeatedly slammed into his thigh. After he was unable to keep Boser on the canvas in the second, he was caught by a flurry of punches that took his legs from him.

The official time of stoppage was 2:31 of the second round for the heavyweight contest, which marked Saint Preux’s second setback in the big-man division after a loss to Ben Rothwell. Boser, meanwhile, snapped a two-fight skid.

Boser, who dropped decisions to Ilir Latifi and Andrei Arlovski in his previous outings, came out aggressively and took an early lead. He cracked Saint Preux with his right hand on several occasions, though he wasn’t able to do visible damage. That came in the second round when one of his low kicks brought a stutter-step from Saint Preux, who later secured the takedown.

In side control, Saint Preux was in prime position to pull off one of his patented Von Flue chokes. But Boser was smart enough not to give up the full position.

Commentators paused after Boser appeared to grab the fence before righting himself moments later. A closer look showed that Boser put his hand on the fence and pushed against it for leverage but did not appear to put his fingers inside the cage. The official result backed that finding, and Boser was declared the winner.
