The Apex Center in Las Vegas, Nevada was home to a great night of fights at UFC Vegas 29: Korean Zombie vs. Ige. The card saw five (T)KOs, six decisions and one submission.
The prelims opened with Scottish flyweight Casey O’Neill submitting Lara Procopio in the third round with a rear-naked choke, extending her undefeated record to 7-0. Rick Glenn returned to the UFC after more than two years away to pick up a first round knockout against Joaquim Silva. In the heavyweight division, Josh Parisian picked up a split decision win against Roque Martinez. That was followed by another decision win as Khaos Williams got the better of Matthew Semelsberger.
Virna Jandiroba earned an injury TKO win over Kanako Murata, injuring the limb of Murata in the first round with a tight armbar that forced the doctor to later stop the fight. In the featured prelim of the night, Nick Negumereanu picked up his first win since 2018 as he went the distance against Aleksa Camur but did enough to earn the split decision win.
The main card kicked off with a bang as Matt Brown scored a one-punch KO against Dhiego Lima in the second round. It was the 40-year-old’s Brown 38th UFC fight. The string of finishes continued when Bruno Silva knocked Wellington Turman out cold with some brutal ground and pound in the first round. In the first featherweight fight of the evening, Seung Woo Choi quickly dispatched Julian Erosa by way of some heavy strikes in the first round.
Bantamweights Chito Vera and Davey Grant put on an epic battle that would go on to be Fight of the Night. Grant had success with some heavy shots in the first round, but Vera would pick up momentum as the fight went on landing chopping elbows, scoring takedowns and landing ground and pound to earn the decision win. Sergey Spivak earned a decision win over the veteran Aleksei Oleinik in the co-main event. Spivak kept the fight on the feer and avoided the submission attempt of Oleinik to earn the win.
In the main event, Chan Sung Jung picked up his first decision win since 2008 as he defeated Dan Ige. Jung mixed up his heavy strikes with takedowns to bag himself a certain three rounds, with a late fightback from Ige being too little too late as Jung won a unanimous decision.
Performance of the Night: Matt Brown and Seungwoo Choi
Casey O’Neill (rear-naked choke, 2:54 of round 3), Rick Glenn (KO (punches) 0:37 of round 1), Virna Jandiroba (TKO (arm injury) 5:00 of round 2), Matt Brown (KO (punch) 3:02 of round 2), Bruno Silva (KO (punches) 4:45 of round 1 and Seung Woo Choi (TKO (punches) 1:37 of round 1) all finished their fights inside the distance, but it would be Brown and Choi that would take the night’s $50K performance bonuses.
