Morning Report: UFC Vegas 30’s Justin Jaynes betting his entire fight purse on himself this weekend

There’s an old saying in life that you should always bet on yourself. Well, this weekend Justin Jaynes is doing just that, literally.

On Saturday at UFC Vegas 30, Jaynes will face Charles Rosa in the second fight of the prelims and according to the Xtreme Couture fighter, he will be betting his entire fight purse on himself.

“As soon as the betting line comes out between Justin Jaynes and Charles Rosa, I’m putting my entire fight contract on myself,” Jaynes told Overtime Heroics. “My coaches are doing that as well. I’m betting close to $25K that I’m winning my fight because that’s how much I believe in myself.

Oddsmakers currently have Jaynes installed as a +140 underdog, meaning that a $25,000 bet would pay him out $35,000. Given the UFC’s standard policy of a win bonus that matches the fighters purse, that means that with a win on Saturday, Jaynes could walk away with $85,000 in his pocket. Not a bad night in the office. Of course, if Jaynes loses the fight, then neither he nor his coaches will get anything, but that’s an outcome Jaynes says they’re okay with because for him, regardless of the the wager he’s placing, the stakes for this fight already couldn’t be any higher.

“This is all in for me, and if I lose this fight, I do not get paid and my coaches do not get paid either,” Jaynes said. “And that won’t be as bad as losing my job of being in the UFC.”

Jaynes may not be wrong about losing his job. After an impressive debut against Frank Camacho in 2020, Jaynes has lost three straight in the UFC and figures to get his walking papers with another loss. But Jaynes is adamant that won’t happen and by betting on himself, he plans on having a Saturday to remember.

“My career is on the line in this fight,” Jaynes said. “Charles’s career is on the line in this fight; he’s coming off of a loss as well. I’ve been an underdog four times in a row, and if Charles thinks I’m just going to roll over, then he will be sadly mistaken because I’m bringing the heat. I’m going to be on weight, I’m going to be in shape, and I’m going to smash Charles Rosa come June 26th.”

Tanner Boser, getting things done.

Hey @Jon_Anik, there has been a lack of P3 (the official protein snack of the UFC) in the Performance Institute fridge this time around. I know this isn’t your job, but somehow it feels like it might almost be your moral obligation to look into this. Thank you @UFCPI @P3Protein

FINAL THOUGHTS

Not gonna lie, I wasn’t super keen on the Rosa-Jaynes fight before today. I mean, sure, it was probably going to be good fun but ultimately, it didn’t matter too terrible much in the grand scheme of the division. Now, I will be rapt with attention. Nothing like a high-stakes fist fight to get your Saturday going.

Thanks for reading, enjoy the fights, and see y’all on Monday.
