Morning Report: Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad get in heated exchange: ‘Aren’t you the guy that got 3 piece and soda’d?’

Welp. Here we go again.

Last week, both Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad picked up unanimous decision wins at UFC 263, with Edwards dominating early and then surviving a last-minute surge from Nate Diaz and Muhammad winning a fairly pedestrian decision over Demian Maia. Then, earlier this week, Muhammad once again called for a rematch with Edwards, saying that he and Edwards had unfinished business and that the nature of Edwards’ win precluded him from getting a title shot next. Now, he and Edwards are back at each others’ throats.

On Tuesday, Edwards responded to Muhammad’s interview, calling Muhammad “a clown” for saying he doesn’t deserve a title fight. That set off a heated response from Muhammad, mocking Edwards for the infamous “three piece with the soda” incident where Edwards was attacked by Jorge Masvidal backstage at UFC London.

Aren’t you the guy that got 3 piece and soda’d ?

— Belal Muhammad (@bullyb170) June 22, 2021

In your own country ?

— Belal Muhammad (@bullyb170) June 22, 2021

Muhammad and Edwards have had beef with one another since earlier this year, when Muhammad stepped in on short notice to face Edwards in the main event of UFC Vegas 21. The bout was Edwards’ first fight in nearly two years and one that “Rocky” hoped would cement a title shot for himself, however, an eye poke from Edwards just 18 seconds into the second round rendered Muhammad unable to continue and resulted in a no-contest. Following the disappointing ending, Muhammad called for an immediate rematch but Edwards was entirely uninterested. Now, with Edwards unlikely to get a title shot next, Muhammad is doing his best to pick a fight and it’s definitely getting a response out of Edwards.

Unfortunately for Muhammad, he is not the only person trying to pick a fight with Edwards. The man with the three-piece-and-a-soda himself, Jorge Masvidal, has also shown an interest in finally settling their beef. However, neither man may be in luck as thus far, Edwards has remained pretty firm on his plan to wait for a title shot.
